Russian translations
The Russian language is one of the top five spoken languages in the world. Russian is spoken as a primary language by about 167 million people, while for approximately 277 million people, Russian is a second language. Russian is one of the official languages of the UN, and the Russian-speaking population of the United States is between 4 and 5.5 million people.
The region did not have a written language until about the 9th century, when two brothers, Cyril and Methodius, together with their pupils, created an alphabet for Slavonic that was close to the Greek, which was well known throughout the Bulgarian territories and the rest of Europe at the time.
Much later, political developments rendered Moscow’s dialect dominant, and, throughout history, contemporary literature is largely based on the Moscow dialect. Contemporary Russian speech is a mix of literary traditions and regional dialects. Today, American English largely affects technical terminology in modern Russian, mainly in computer terminology and telecommunications.
The challenges of translating Russian texts include a significant expansion in size. In technical terms, not all applications support Russian text. Hyphenation rules have to be followed quite rigorously, reflecting the presentation of desktop, display and typesetting particularities.
At InterTranslations, the translation of a Russian text is not a matter of routine. The project managers analyse the parameters of the client's business, the target audience and assign the texts to specialised translators in order to achieve timely delivery of top-quality translation projects.
