German translations
In recent years, the influence of the German language has increased at an international level, due to Germany’s economic power in Europe. It is the mother tongue of 100 million Europeans and is widely taught across Europe. The German language is spoken mainly in Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, two-thirds of Switzerland, and the South Tyrol province in Italy (in German, Südtirol). It is also spoken in the small East Cantons of Belgium, as well as in some border villages of the South Jutland Country in Denmark.
In the business world, German is now considered an important language in the context of reaching out to potential customers throughout different areas across Europe. It is also worthy to note that according to the Guinness Book of Records, German has been credited with the greatest number of translation texts globally.
Variations among the German dialects are considerable, and as a result, certain dialects are not intelligible to people who only speak standard German. Although German is generally considered a highly complex language and the word order remains as a whole more rigid than English, it should be noted that it has been simplified in the course of time, and that electronic usage is further characterized by umlaut vowels (ä, ö, ü), which are commonly replaced by ae, oe and ue respectively if the umlauts are not available on the keyboard used. German and English have the common characteristic of the incorporation of words from other languages, especially Latin, French and Greek, a process called Internationalismus by German linguists.
At InterTranslations, the translation of a German text is not a matter of routine. The project managers analyse the parameters of the client's business, the target audience and assign the texts to specialised translators in order to achieve timely delivery of top-quality translation projects.
